Aissulu Kadyrzhanova uses oil and acrylic paint to create works rooted inabstracted landscapes, still lifes and figures, with a strong emphasis on organic forms.
Aissulu Kadyrzhanova is a visual artist based near Philadelphia.
Born in Kazakhstan, she studied painting at the Almaty Art College and the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow before continuing her studies in the United States, where she earned her MFA in painting from Tyler School of Art at Temple University.
Her work is grounded in sustained observation of the natural world and shaped by her Kazakh heritage, which holds a deep sensitivity to the presence and vitality of the environment.
Working in a measured, intuitive way, she builds her paintings through layered surfaces and nuanced relationships of form and space.
Her compositions move between realism and abstraction, creating works that hold a quiet intensity and a strong sense of presence.
When placed in an interior, her paintings introduce a sense of stillness and focus, offering a contemplative experience that unfolds gradually over time.
"For me, art is a way of paying attention. It is a practice of slowing down and observing the world closely, before naming or interpreting it, and allowing something to emerge through that process. Painting becomes a space where I can engage with form, material, and perception in a direct and intuitive way.
At the same time, art is how I make sense of my relationship to the world around me. It allows me to explore the sense that everything—landscape, objects, and living beings—holds its own presence. Through painting, I try to create spaces that carry a quiet intensity, where the viewer can slow down and experience something beyond immediate recognition."
