Ariel Messeca

Frederick, Maryland

Ariel Messeca creates contemporary portraits using acrylic paint.

Ari Messeca's work examining faces turns the 'selfie' into high art. Often swirling colors or hard geometric shapes represent movement of pixels on a screen as one scrolls along. Ari double majored in Studio Art and Theater at Muhlenberg College. His continued work as a performer encourages him to dig deep into the subjects of his work.

Ari is very happy to collaborate with clients on pieces rooting in Diverse backgrounds or telling Queer stories. His work has been featured in galleries across the D.C./M.D. area and have been sold across the country.

Inspired by Chuck Close, Elizabeth Peyton, and Hernan Bass, to Ari, art is about having a safe place. It is something where nothing is truly out of bounds, and you can uncover as much reality or fantasy as your soul will let you. It is both being able to allow your whole mind and being work hard on a project, but also allowing your head to be somewhere else as your body takes control to aimlessly create. Art is healing.
