Mark Giaimo

Arlington, Virginia

Mark Giaimo creates portraits, figuratives, still lifes, landscapes and caricatures using oils.

A former Pulitzer Prize nominated political cartoonist and an alt-rock recording artist, Mark Giaimo enrolled in his first oil painting class in 2004. Within two years he was accepted into the Post-Baccalaureate Graduate Program at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore where he completed a semester before striking out on his own.

His award-winning still life and portrait paintings —which mix the mundane with the sacred, kitsch with classical realism — are represented by Teal Canvas and by Calloway Fine Art & Consultants in Georgetown, where he has held two solo exhibitions, in 2016 and 2018. He also has exhibited in numerous group shows in NYC and the greater DC area.

A committed and inspired art instructor, Mark teaches various drawing and painting classes, most notably at Yellow Barn Studios in Glen Echo Park.

“My art is an act of meditation and faith in the potential good in life.”
